This is a screen shot of an attempt in cryengine. It is still a work in progress as there seems to be a disconnect with my sketch up and cryengine!
Im hoping that my original movie that I made will still be saved on the uni computers.

Luckily my very first attempt on cry engine was saved of the uni computers! Although not a great example of my spaces, it took a lot of practice for me to get that much, the sketch up I imported was a very basic edit of Ollies boat shed files, but it allowed me to have a small practice of the software and play around with lighting. I found cry engine extremely difficult to use haha.

Man meets environment

Final Idea

For my final idea I decided to create a space, that people can come in and interact natural phenomenons in a visual way.

The space is divided in two parts, a wind space and a light space.

It is a gallery type experience and you walk through the space. Firstly there is lots of stringing and floaty things that get blown around and then as you progress through there is a series of pipes which capture the wind and make noises. the next room you enter is the light room, the walls are covered in mirrors set on different angles and there is a sculptural piece of many mirrors at different angles again which reflect the light and bounce off and does interesting things. the light comes from a series of lights and lasers combined with natural light.

This room is also to play upon the fact that the person will see their own reflection and realise that they are ultimately a part of the environment.

The different spaces and how you walk through them.

Man meets environment Initial ideas

This week I wanted to look at things a bit more abstractly. I was thinking of the physical boat shed setting and what naturally you would encounter there.

Something Wellington is famous for is the wind and I thought about how we all put up with it and know it is there but it is kind of ignored as much as possible.

I want to create a space that allows the person to interact and experience the wind in a more positive mind set.

The meeting of person and environment.

After talking to class mates and Ollie and Meg here are some Alternative ideas.

- Info Centre
- Wind Tunnel
- Weather system simulator
- Divert the weather

Man Meets Environment Idea Progress

Perhaps incorporate windmills, have something light hanging and the wind can move them or peoples movement can.

Man meets knowledge

In the space I wanted it to feel like home, there is an open fire, wooden floors and comfy spaces. There is many options to relax, either in the book igloo downstairs or you can retreat to the small loft area upstairs to really get away, there is a hammock by the window to lay in the sun or some bean bags to sit on.
The influence comes from childhood and retreating to cubby houses and tree houses. Its a place to get away and a chance to read and learn.

The Meeting of man and knowledge

For week 3 I chose to do a space where people can come in and learn things.

I wanted it to be a small library space that was intimate and comfortable with plenty of books all around to use to gain knowledge.

I want the space to feel homely and warm, a little bit secluded so public wouldn't even know it was there.

From outside it would look just like the other boat sheds.
